The Sports Business is Way Bigger Than You Think

The admiration one would naturally have for those women who enter into the male dominated world of the business of sports quickly turns into the realisation that it is indeed a practical business-career path to pursue. There are huge rewards waiting at the end of the rainbow that is the business of sports and many, many opportunities to pursue as well. The sports business is way bigger than you may think — well it’s certainly way bigger than what I initially thought, but I think I came to learn that in what is perhaps the most interesting possible way one could ever learn something like that, having collaborated with a power-playing woman who has made her career in the sports world.

Core Business

The power boss-lady in question is the co-owner of a football club, not one of the bigger ones in the whole world, but a significant one which does well enough on the field and on the balance-sheets. Owning shares and assuming an executive or non-executive role is just a tiny portion of what constitutes the business of sports. The core business is obviously what we see on TV, in the case of professional sports clubs, that is, i.e. players do their thing on the field while revenue is generated from TV rights and gate-takings.

In the case of those teams playing in leagues such as the English Premier League, each team gets a grant from the league as well, which could form part of the money which comes from TV rights.

Sponsorships and Endorsements

These could also perhaps be grouped in with the core business of sports, but because of the rather dynamic nature in which sponsorships and endorsement deals are incorporated into the game (football in this case); it makes for a whole other market. There are personal endorsement deals for example, where players earn extra money outside of the wages they earn from the club as their basic salaries. In many instances, professional players even earn more from their personal endorsement deals than what they earn as their basic salary.

Sports Betting

You can bet on all sports. If you do online searches like sports betting tennessee, or for betting sites near your location, you would be able to see your options. Depending on the time of year you will find markets available for the major professional sports, college sports, and other international events. I could write an entire book about sports betting, some of which content would naturally entail the unofficial and often dark side of it, which is partly responsible for the match-fixing scandals which are occasionally uncovered. Moreover, if there are portals like freebonuscode.co.uk dedicated to listing betting bonus codes and special promos for sports betting, and casino sites, then what does that say about the enormity of the sports betting industry itself, right? Sports betting is a huge part of the business of sports and many people enjoy it, especially if they have access to bonus codes, like this Bonus code for Mr Play Sports, which can help them boost their winnings.

Merchandising

The simplest example of merchandising in the sports business is that of printing replica sports attire and then selling it. People who buy merchandise want to do so as they feel part of the sport they support, so looking into baseball bats for sale is a way they can find what they need as well as getting to play the sport they love. The likes of Real Madrid Football Club is a perfect example of how merchandising contributes greatly to the club’s revenue, with some famous incidents of insane shirt-sales including the likes of David Beckham and Gareth Bale.

There is so much more to the world of the sports business though and I haven’t really even begun to scrape the surface with the few aspects I briefly touched on here.
